San Francisco, CA, United States (AHN) – An unruly passenger was wrestled to the floor by crew members and passengers of an American Airlines flight as it approached San Francisco.
The man was pounding on the cockpit door, marking the third incident in U.S. skies in a day. The incident occurred on American Airlines flight 1561 from Chicago to San Francisco.
Minutes before the flight from Chicago was about to land at San Francisco International Airport, the 28-year-old man began yelling and brushed his way past a flight attendant. A male flight attendant tackled the suspect, aided by a retired police officer and Secret Service officer.
The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Rageit Almurisi. He carried a Yemen passport, however it remains unknown if his nationality is also Yemeni.
Almurisi, who suffered some bruises during the scuffle, was transported to a hospital where he was treated then sent to San Mateo County Jail. He is being charged with interfering with a flight crew, a federal offense.
No other injuries were reported and the flight continued on its normal operating schedule with no change in security levels.
The Boeing 737 was carrying 162 people.
