New Delhi, India (AHN) – The world’s cheapest car is grabbing attention for all the wrong reasons. Nano, the entry level car manufactured by Indian automobile giant Tata Motors has been ranked last in the small cars category in terms of customer satisfaction, by market research company, TNS.
TNS Automotive, in its 2010 four-wheeler Total Customer Satisfaction (TCS) survey, had ranked the Maruti Suzuki Alto as the best entry level small car, while another car from the company — Omni — was second on the list.
Alto, the 800cc car from Maruti Suzuli, received 91 points, while Nano was ranked lowest with 70 points.
The TNS survey, which was released on Thursday, said, “The customer expectations even at the bottom end are rising. The owners of Tata Nano expect more in terms of design.”
With Tata now a major player in the international automobile market, following their acquisition of renowned brands like acquired Jaguar and Range Rover, this certainly would be bad news for the Indian industrial giants.
The Nano hasn’t quite endeared itself to the Indian buyer following more than half-a-dozen incidents of fire being reported last year. Though Tata Motors has assured the problem has been solved, and they are willing to provide additional safety equipment, it hasn’t been able to address the anxieties of the Indian buyers.
The TNS survey also says that the discerning Indian consumer is now willing to pay more for comfort. In the premium compact car category, Maruti Suzuki’s Zen Estilo and A-Star are joint leaders, while Volkswagen Polo and Maruti Suzuki’s Swift were joint No. 1 in the upper premium small cars category. The survey had a customer base of 9,300, opting for 56 models.
