In the market for an over-priced luxury handset? Do you equate luxury with a brand name, snakeskin, perhaps even a feature phone with all but the barest of “features?” You’re in luck! Once again looking to give Vertu a run for its money, Tag Heuer has upped the ante with its newest, the Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini.

In addition to that world famous 1.9-inch sapphire crystal display, 2 megapixel camera, media player, Bluetooth, and roughly seven hours of talk time, this guy throws the Lamborghini logo into the mix. Available in a limited edition of 1963 (the date that its namesake was first sold), look for it sometime this month at selected Tag Heuer Phone and Lamborghini retailers — which we’re sure you frequent anyways. TAG Heuer on Monday announced the release of a limited-edition cellphone, the design of which was inspired by the Lamborghini Murcielago supercar. Only 1963 examples of the MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini cellphone will be made worldwide to signify the founding year of Lamborghini cars.

The phone is made of stainless steel coated in black titanium carbide and sports the same signature as the one found on the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640′s V12 engine block.

The features are not as advanced as some other handsets, and include a two-megapixel camera, media player functionality and Bluetooth. The 1.9-inch display is covered by a 60.5-carat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal panel, however. The phone’s battery is said to last for seven hours of talk time and 28 days of standby power.

The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini handset ships in November, though prices have not been announced.

Lamborghini and Tag Heuer teamed up for a new limited edition luxury cell phone. With a design based on the strikingly sexy Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640, the Tag Heuer Meridiist 2 SIM looks about as cool as a cell phone can look. Only 1963 (the year Lamborghini was founded) copies of this phone will be made, starting at an enormously expensive $7,500.

The phone is constructed from stainless steel and coated in black titanium carbide (really hard stuff,) and you can get it in various colors of leather, alligator skin, or rubber.

My favorite: Black calfskin leather with red stitching. The screen is made from sapphire crystal, the same scratch-resistant material high-end watch faces are made from.

The whole phone has a sharp-edged design any Lamborghini lover will adore, although the dimensions and feature design resemble phones from five years ago. The rear is styled after the Murciélago LP 640′s V12 engine block and engraved with your “XXXX/1963? limited edition number.

Battery life is an impressive seven hours talk time, 28 days standby power. Tech features are a typical 2 megapixel camera and WAP 2.0 browser, quad-band GSM, an ultra-sensitive antenna, an OLED screen on top displaying time, and Lamborghini wallpapers and screen animations.

Worth the price? Not even close, but if you just bought a new Lambo, chances are you’re not worried about saving money on your cell phone bill.
